Fibre FAQs
Everything customers usually want to know about LekkaNet fibre on the Openserve and Frogfoot networks, from applying to getting connected.
Who does what?
Openserve and Frogfoot provide the fibre network infrastructure, each reaching different areas. LekkaNet is the ISP that supplies the internet service, manages your account and provides your support. So whatever the question, start with us.
What is LekkaNet?
LekkaNet is your Internet Service Provider (ISP). You can apply online through this website for selected Openserve and Frogfoot fibre packages. LekkaNet manages your internet service, customer account, billing and customer support.
What are Openserve and Frogfoot?
Openserve and Frogfoot are the two Fibre Network Operators (FNOs) LekkaNet sells fibre on. They provide the underlying fibre network infrastructure, while Internet Service Providers such as LekkaNet use that network to deliver internet services to customers. Which one reaches your address depends on where you live.
Is LekkaNet the same as Openserve or Frogfoot?
No. Openserve and Frogfoot provide and operate the fibre network infrastructure. LekkaNet is the ISP that supplies your internet service and manages your customer account and support.
How do I apply for LekkaNet fibre?
Pop your address into our coverage checker, pick the package you want on whichever network reaches you, and complete the online application. You will be asked to upload a few supporting documents along the way.
Where do I apply online?
Right here. The fibre application form walks you through it, and the coverage checker will send you straight there once it confirms fibre at your address.
Can I check if fibre is available at my address?
Yes, and you should, because fibre availability is address-specific. Our coverage checker tells you whether Openserve or Frogfoot fibre reaches your property. If neither does, it will also check whether our LTE service can cover you instead.
What happens after I submit my application?
LekkaNet processes your application and verifies the information you provided. If anything more is needed, our team will contact you. Once the order is approved and processed, installation or activation can go ahead.
How long does installation take?
Usually around 7 days from application on the Frogfoot network. Openserve installs vary more, since timing depends heavily on the fibre infrastructure already in place at your address. Either way it can also depend on technical requirements, any civil work needed and appointment availability, and LekkaNet will confirm the process for your specific order.
Will a technician need to come to my home?
If your property needs a new fibre connection or installation work, a technician appointment may be required. If the property is already fibre-ready, the process is usually simpler.
Do I need a fibre router?
Yes, and every LekkaNet fibre package includes one. The Wi-Fi router distributes your fibre connection around the home. Please note it is free to use, not free to own. The router remains the property of LekkaNet for as long as you are with us, and needs to come back to us when you cancel.
Can I use my own router?
This may be possible if your router meets the technical requirements of the LekkaNet service. Contact us before installation so we can confirm compatibility and configuration.
What is an ONT?
An ONT (Optical Network Terminal) is the fibre termination device that converts the optical fibre signal into an Ethernet connection for your router.
What fibre speeds are available?
We currently offer 30/30, 50/25, 50/50, 100/50 and 100/100Mbps on the Openserve network, and 60/30, 60/60, 120/60 and 240/120Mbps on the Frogfoot network, all uncapped and unshaped. The speeds and network available to you depend on your address, so check the current offers in our packages section before choosing.
Can I use fibre for streaming and gaming?
Yes. Fibre is well suited to streaming, video calls, online gaming, browsing and working from home. Actual performance also depends on your package, your Wi-Fi setup and the devices you have connected.
Can the whole family use the fibre at the same time?
Yes. Phones, computers, smart TVs, gaming consoles and anything else can connect through your router at once. The available bandwidth is shared between the connected devices.
Will my fibre work during load shedding?
The fibre cable itself does not need electricity to carry the optical signal, but your ONT and router do. You will need a suitable backup power solution to keep that equipment running through a power outage.
What should I do if my internet stops working?
Check that the ONT and router have power and that the cables are connected properly, then restart the equipment if it is safe to do so. If the problem continues, contact LekkaNet support so we can test the connection and investigate.
Who do I contact for billing or account questions?
LekkaNet is your ISP, so come to us for billing, account, package, payment and general customer service questions.
Who do I contact if there is a network fault?
Contact LekkaNet first. We can troubleshoot your service and, where necessary, escalate a network fault to the relevant Openserve or Frogfoot support channel on your behalf.
Can I change my fibre package later?
Package changes are subject to the LekkaNet products available at your address and to your service terms. Get in touch and we will confirm your upgrade or downgrade options.
Can I move my fibre service to another address?
That depends on fibre availability, on Openserve or Frogfoot, at the new address, and on the applicable ISP and network processes. Contact us before you move so the new address can be checked.
Can I switch to LekkaNet from another provider?
Yes, as long as your line is on Openserve or Frogfoot. Moving an active fibre line from one ISP to another is called a migration, and it carries a once-off fee on top of your first month. Tell us who you are with at the moment and we will confirm that fee and your switchover date before you commit to anything. One thing to know up front: our Fibre 30/30 promotional package is for new installations only, so if you are migrating you would come across onto one of the other packages.
What documents do I need when I apply?
For a fibre application we ask for a copy of your ID or passport, proof of residence, your latest payslip and three months of bank statements. If you are renting, you will also need written consent from your landlord before we can install. The online application form shows you exactly what to upload and where.
Is there a contract or minimum term?
Our fibre packages run on a 12 month term, and your monthly price stays the same once those 12 months are up. Have a read of our terms and conditions before you apply so you know where you stand on cancellation.
Are installation fees included?
Installation and activation are free while our current promotion runs. Any costs that do apply to your specific address or offer will be confirmed with you during the application process, never sprung on you afterwards.
Why should I apply through LekkaNet?
We give you a simple online way to choose an internet package and apply for service. You deal with LekkaNet for your internet account, billing and customer support, while Openserve or Frogfoot, whichever reaches your address, provides the underlying fibre network.
